New House Series - Sewing Room 1 - So Yellow!
Hey Reader,
I spent the holiday break doing the wall smoothing of the third bedroom and have aspirations of turning it into a room for all the crafts and projects that I do on this blog. I feel like all the rooms need names. I was going to call it my "craft room," but someone suggested calling it my "maker space."
What makes a maker space different from a craft room exactly? I guess a maker space is typically more communal than a craft room. I sort of feel like a lot of the gentlemen I know call themselves "makers" instead of "crafters." It feels like some gender norm nonsense I don't like.
You might be sitting there going: "but JoshPrime, the title of this very blog post is "sewing room." Why are you worried about the difference between makerspace and craft room if you are going to call it sewing room anyway."
That is a good question. Here is the thing: I eventually want to do a lengthy post on warded mortise locks and bit keys. If you are unfamiliar, its the long "skeleton key" type keys that you see in movies. I want to convert my whole house to warded locks and bit keys, but that is now a super specialized locksmith thing. I don't know if that dream is going to happen. I have dreams of fancy paper labels on my bit keys that say the name of the room the door opens in curvy script.
I dream differently than most people. Point is, "craft room" and "maker space" both would look totally ridiculous on my fancy labeled keys. Therefore, I need something a little more old fashioned. So I am going with "sewing room."
Wow, is there going to be any "making" in this post on JoshPrimeMakesStuff? There is certainly going to be a lot of quotation marks.
There isn't much to say about the progress I have made in the sewing room so far. I pretty much want this whole room to be desk, and I want to have all white furniture. I eventually want to install a lot of new trim in this room and I wanted a cheery color to offset the white.
After a few days over the winter holiday spent smoothing the walls, it was finally ready for paint. I had a heck of a time with this room's paint. The color just wouldn't stick to the wall. I did four coats and I could still see the light brown color of the primer. I am considering changing paint brands. Wow, I am an adult. I have a paint brand.
This has been a post full of revelations for me, but largely without much in the way of making things. It's cool. Here is the shot of the room with the four fresh coats of cheery yellow paint! I am really getting better at edging, not that it matters once the crown molding starts happening.
Anyway, keep making cool stuff!
Until next time,
JoshPrime
