Diamond Painting for Beginners!
Hey Reader,
Have you heard of Diamond Painting? It is a super cool new craft project I am starting to get into. I really like it because it isn't as physically taxing as smoothing walls in my house, and you can do it while watching TV. I have gotten really behind on all my television lately, so this is a positive. Now, if only we could find a way to make stuff, while also doing cardio.
Diamond painting is essentially color by number, but the colors are little plastic diamonds. MommaPrime has gotten really into them lately and sent me one to try. Check me out. This kit is for beginners like me.
It is a super easy project and the end result is pretty striking. The only real challenge is figuring out the way to pick up and move the little diamonds. You are given a tiny square of wax and a picking device. By poking the picking device into the wax, it becomes sticky enough to pick up the little diamonds. It can take a little bit to get the hang of how hard to press on the diamonds. You want to make sure it is stuck on well enough that you can lift it, but not so hard that wax squishes out when you press it onto the paper.
The paper is essentially contact paper with a grid on it. My brain immediately started thinking about ways to make my own papers, which would allow me to make custom diamond paintings! You will be tempted to remove the protective film when you start working, but don't! Only peal the part you need and work slowly. Otherwise, stuff can get stuck to your sticky paper that ISN'T tiny plastic diamonds. Tragic.
It does mean you don't get the satisfaction of the peely thing. Sometimes I consider buying new electronics just for that.
Anyway, since mine was small, I did it by color, but if it is a large project you will want to do it by section. I saved my extra diamonds for future projects.
It only took me a few hours to get this sparkly rose looking great!
I don't know if this counts as a do it yourself art project, since the "art" part is already done for you, but I am choosing to be distracted by the shiny plastic.
Keep making cool stuff,
Until next time,
JoshPrime
