Color By Number - Mystery

Image
Hey Reader, I have really gotten into coloring lately. Again, I recognize it is not the most crafty thing in the world, but I needed a break from all the wall smoothing and painting! I am really close to that whole thing being done and won't we all be happier then. I got this book of highly complex color by numbers a little bit ago. It is really fun to zone out in front of the TV while coloring, and these have an added element of mystery. I have no idea what this picture is going to be of until it is all done. Look at that picture there. I have only done two colors and it is pretty impossible to figure out exactly what it is. Also, looking at this I would love to try and use one of these pictures as a pattern for a quilt. How cool would it be to do this on a large scale? Maybe that is just me, but I see it happening. By this point in the coloring, I am definitely getting some bug vibes. I would like to try assigning different colors to the numbers and seeing how that go...

Crazy Rag Quilt Part 2

Image
Hey Reader, This project has really been on the backburner lately, and sadly it still kind of is. I did want to give you an update though. When we last left it over a month ago, I had just laid down all the squares in the pattern I wanted. I also quipped that my blog would probably become a lot of quilt posts because I enjoy quilting these rag quilts a lot. A lot has happened since then, namely buying a house. It will probably be a while before I have the time for a quilt again! Anyway, I said I wanted to give you an update so I am going to do that. Just like previous quilts, I sewed the lines and created little rows of quilts all together. It is still important to be careful about orientation of the strips so that I didn't accidentally double up a patch - even though I am doing a crazy non-pattern, I did avoid same patters sharing a side with each other. This is going to be like my last rag quilt , in that it is very very warm. I was getting hot just sewing it together. I ...

Crazy Rag Quilt Part 1

Hey Reader, I know I have talked on more than one occasion about how quilts don't make the best blog posts in the world. However, I am going to go a little more in depth into the making of this quilt, because I have learned a lot from my last two iterations . As you recall I am sure, I bought half a yard of pretty much every flannel they had at the fabric store during a massive sale a few months ago. I had big dreams of making a mismatched rag quilt that would be super cozy and warm - as well as being covered in some of the silliest patterns I could find. Cutting hundreds of squares using my cereal box pattern was getting harder and harder. Every time my hand slipped and I cut some of the cardboard I would have to either tape it up or just remember where the cardboard used to go. That definitely wouldn't fly on a traditional quilt, but rag quilts are a bit more forgiving. I really need a plastic square if I am going to keep making these. The cool thing is that I can c...

Rag Quilt Part Deux

Image
Hey reader! I don't want to give you too much of a peak behind the curtain, but sometimes I write posts ahead of time. I know, I know. You have been sitting at home thinking I literally get halfway done a puppet and then don't touch it for a week. I hate to break it to you, but that's not how it usually works. I get obsessed with a project and work on it for a solid 48 hours and then have to figure out a way to break it up and make it a more manageable post. Herein lies my new problem. I have become obsessed with rag quilts. There is something pretty zen about making them. It is the same basic task over and over which allows my mind to wander to deep thoughts like "what if all my hair was eyelashes?" or "Sure I know how cotton candy is made, but what about salt water taffy?" or even "what kind of game show do I want to host on YouTube?" These are important thoughts that need time to be considered. Therefore, I have been drawn more and mor...

Baby Rag Quilt! It's a rag quilt - for a baby!

Image
Hey Reader! I hope this blog post finds you well. Are you have a great day? There isn't really a lot of back and forth possible on a blog post. I mean, I suppose there could be comments, but that is still pretty asynchronous. I am just going to assume you are having a great day. Perhaps you are discovering you are having a baby. That might seem like quite a leap, but you try and segue from the existential dread of writing a blog into the void with the miracle of childbirth. Even if you had a comment about it, this is asynchronous so I will have likely moved on by the time your words of discouragement reach me. I feel like I lost my point in there somewhere. I am making a rag quilt baby blanket. One of my colleagues is having a baby and I wanted to make something to commemorate the occasion. Seems appropriate. I have been itching to try a new type of quilt I discovered on Pinterest called the rag quilt. Essentially, you sew three squares of flannel together and leave an extra ...

Quilting Doesn't Lend Itself Well To Blogs

Hey readers, I am drawing some concepts up of the next round of puppets that I want to make. I want to do a monster in every color of the rainbow. I am really excited to get started, but I also wanted to branch out into a different sewing project. I decided to do a quilt.  This project is rife with issues that I will get into, but I am committed to getting the top complete before I move on to something else. After working on it for a while, I discovered rag quilts. Rag quilts are super fun and much simpler than a traditional quilt. I want to do one of those next, so my puppet projects might sit on the backburner for a while. "What is wrong with this quilt?" You might be asking. Probably you are just reading and not trying to ask questions of your screen. Really that would be silly of you. I am not there to answer your questions and I am the best person for that job - since it is a question of me. Essentially the primary problem is that I don't like quilting. ...
