New House Series: Downstairs Pt 2

Image
Hey Reader! Last we checked in on house stuff, I had made it downstairs. I have since finished three coat of skim on all the walls. Since this seemingly endless project is finally nearing its end, I figured I would try a new technique. Why not shake things up when I am nearly done? Don't want to get too comfortable. I have noticed that when I go to paint the walls, I have difficulty with the edging. This is because I am bad at painting, but also because the trim has a high gloss white paint. I don't usually spend a lot of time worrying about being careful, because the walls aren't painted yet. However, I did notice that because the trim is a high glass white (the only acceptable finish for trim is high gloss, and the only acceptable color is white) the wall paint has difficulty covering all along the edging. This has meant that my one coat guarantee paint is great on the walls, except those small areas. It is much harder to edge than roll, so you can imaging my frustrati...

Color By Number - Mystery

Image
Hey Reader, I have really gotten into coloring lately. Again, I recognize it is not the most crafty thing in the world, but I needed a break from all the wall smoothing and painting! I am really close to that whole thing being done and won't we all be happier then. I got this book of highly complex color by numbers a little bit ago. It is really fun to zone out in front of the TV while coloring, and these have an added element of mystery. I have no idea what this picture is going to be of until it is all done. Look at that picture there. I have only done two colors and it is pretty impossible to figure out exactly what it is. Also, looking at this I would love to try and use one of these pictures as a pattern for a quilt. How cool would it be to do this on a large scale? Maybe that is just me, but I see it happening. By this point in the coloring, I am definitely getting some bug vibes. I would like to try assigning different colors to the numbers and seeing how that go...

Spiroglyphics - Pencils?

One loop around. Hey Reader! Last time I worked on a spiroglyphic, I used a sharpie. The marker started to die halfway through and it became a race against the rapidly depleting ink on my cat portrait. I immediately started the bunny with the idea to do four colors. I am continuing to make these, but this time I wanted to try colored pencils. Markers are great, but staying in the lines can be tough - especially given how incredibly narrow some of the lines are. Some of my lines in the bunny picture were narrower than the width of my sharpies. I decided to give colored pencils a try, assuming that I could get the point of my colored pencil to be as thin or thinner than the lines. If you are reading this, you have likely read previous entries - and are in my immediately circle. Therefore you already have your antennae up about that last paragraph. Clearly, something is going to go wrong. Two loops around. What could it be? There is no way he can screw up using a pencil....

New House Series: Hallway Pt 5 - Color!

Image
Reader, This has been a milestone that I have been itching to reach for months now. I finally was able to get some color on the stairwell! When we last left the hallway, I was ready to start painting the hallway. I hit a snag though. I couldn't figure out a good place to stop painting. I know we talked about the bullnose corners, but they really made it frustrating. I felt like I wasn't making progress. I wanted to get to painting, but there was pressure to finish all of downstairs first so I could paint everything at once. Finally, I just decided that was silly and I needed a motivation boost in the form of finishing something! I set out to paint as much of the stairwell as I could! Unpainted and looking dirty The Crisp Linen looks so great! It is really amazing to see the color go on. The wall smoothing process is not clean (shocking I know). The color under the wall shows through, there is rust on the tools, and there's my filthy hand prints from moving the ladd...
