Danny Sexbang pt 5 - Finishing touches!
Hey readers,
This is the last post in my Danny Sexbang adventure! There isn't a whole lot left to do except his nose and those red wrist straps. This has been such a fun project and I hope you all have enjoyed seeing it come together. I am excited to finish him up and get to work on Arin - the other half of the Game Grumps duo. Then maybe I can do little puppet shows of their conversations on grumps! While I love making puppets, puppeteer isn't a skill I claim to have. Last time I tried, I realized how quickly my arm gets tired holding it up like that. I suppose I could learn ventriloquism since that lets me sit even with my puppet. Learning a new skill solely to avoid physical exertion does seem a little lazy even for me though.
I am going to start with the wrist straps. I needed it to be something that could be removable. I might not want his cape on him all the time. I didn't want to use ribbon like the real cape. I could have, but it felt less in line with the style I was creating. I cut a strap of felt out of a red sheet I use for tongues. Cutting along the 8.5 inch side it was the perfect length when cut in half. I had a snap gun that is used to install snaps in things like baby onsies and certain pants. I figured that would be a cute look that would stay in the theme I was going for. Then I hand stitched the felt straps to the cape sides. I messed up a few times, attaching two male snaps to the same strap, or attaching them so they didn't connect right. I always thought it was weird calling something the "male" and "female" end. Does everything have to be about genitalia? Oh yea, it does. Sorry, I forgot myself for a minute there.
Last came the nose. I had a silly putty egg that I thought would make for a good nose. I sanded off the plastic bits that stick out to close the egg up and wrapped it in some scrap yellow fabric I had from a previous project. I struggled with where I wanted the nose to go, but I wound up really liking the slight overhand over the lip. I am really starting to like stitching stuff to the puppets. A year ago, I would have just glued it, but I decided to stitch this one on.
As I hinted in a previous blog, Amazon is sending me some awesome stuff soon that will make eyes and noses easier. I might decide he needs eyes after that stuff comes in. For now, I really like the way he looks as is. Fortunately, my arm-raising laziness doesn't preclude me from making updates to this guy later.
In other news, taking photos of the final product is incredibly challenging. Sure, I could just lay him down and take some shots, but then his mouth is all open and crazy looking. So instead I find myself bending all crazy to get shots.
Seriously, if you had seen a picture of me trying to get a picture on the right of this, you would probably stop reading and try to get me mental help. I think a future project really does need to be some sort of puppet stand that I can sit these things on.
Anyway, I need to get started on the next puppet. Keep making cool stuff!
Until next time,
JoshPrime
