Doughnut Bath Bombs!

Image
Hey Reader! It's that time of week again! This week, I wanted to expand my bath bomb skills a little further and use some new ingredients - namely sprinkles. I have been using the non-lush bath bombs from my local supermarket for a while now and have noticed the decision to include sprinkles.  Are sprinkles appropriate for bathtime now? Maybe it is just something we do to allow us to eat donuts in the tub. I am totally cool with that. In the interest of tub related sugar rushes, I decided to make doughnut bath bombs! Is "donut" acceptable? My spellchecker doesn't think so. I guess to look at it without the Dunkin' context that is really "DO-nut."  I still have my doughnut molds from my FoodStirs experiment a last year . If you have forgotten, FoodStirs is an awesome box subscription service from Sarah Michelle Gellar. Go month to month, or just pick out your favorite thing and try it out. They are having a big sale this week if you use the ...

New House Series - Master Bedroom Pt 2 - Paint and troubleshooting

Image
Hey Reader, It has been two weeks since we talked about my master bedroom. You might recall there was some ominous foreshadowing regarding my wall smoothing confidence. It seems that wall smoothing will never be a project I master, but I will not continue to push. Honestly, it can't be worse than what was already up on the walls. It was finally time to paint! Painting has quickly become my least favorite of the home improvement tasks. Honestly, I find it less fun than wall smoothing! I think it is because it feels final. It is the last step to get to my "blank canvas" and some of the finishing details are rough. Plus, the solid color tends to show off where my skim coating skills are lacking and so I find myself frustrated. As I said last time, the ceiling in the center of the room didn't get the attention it probably should have. It is really frustrating and I actually did a small section over, then realized that it was going to need to be completely redone in ...

Diamond Painting for Beginners!

Image
Hey Reader, Have you heard of Diamond Painting ? It is a super cool new craft project I am starting to get into. I really like it because it isn't as physically taxing as smoothing walls in my house, and you can do it while watching TV. I have gotten really behind on all my television lately, so this is a positive. Now, if only we could find a way to make stuff, while also doing cardio. Diamond painting is essentially color by number, but the colors are little plastic diamonds. MommaPrime has gotten really into them lately and sent me one to try. Check me out. This kit is for beginners like me. It is a super easy project and the end result is pretty striking. The only real challenge is figuring out the way to pick up and move the little diamonds. You are given a tiny square of wax and a picking device. By poking the picking device into the wax, it becomes sticky enough to pick up the little diamonds. It can take a little bit to get the hang of how hard to press on the diamonds...

New House Series - Master Bedroom Pt 1 - Smooth Smooth Smooth

Image
Hey Reader, I am finally down to the last bedroom that needs to be smoothed. Then the bedrooms will finally be at the state that I wanted them to be when I moved in. This is the final bedroom! I have had three rooms to practice on and so this one should go off without a hitch. Ominous foreshadowing time. The biggest issue in smoothing this room's walls is that this room is WAY bigger than all the other rooms. Not only that, it has two windows (that means a lot more edges) and an extra random corner for some reason. It seriously felt like a month of taking this room offline to get the smoothing done. I have finally reached a place that I feel comfortable with when smoothing. I do three coats of skim coating, followed by one sanding coat. It worked great in the craft/sewing room. I know I shouldn't complain that my bedroom is large, but damn it made things more difficult. I keep hoping that when I get to the downstairs it is going to be easy because there aren't as many ...
