New House Series - Media Room Pt 3 - Starting to Decorate!
Hey Reader,
Now that the media room is all painted, it is time to start decorating! After months of painting and skim coating, I am finally at a place where I can start to put stuff in the room! The first thing I want to put in there is a fence. That probably sounds strange, but I want this space to feel as much like I am hanging out outside as I can - minus the sunscreen, bugs, and other people.
The first step in the outdoor illusion is putting up some fencing around the outside edge of the room. I had hoped that I could make huge amounts of progress on this and really have something to show you this week. However, I went to the store to buy my fencing and quickly discovered that my tiny car is not spacious enough to fit the fence segments and me at the same time. All I was able to get home right now was the four posts that will support the fence. Stupid fences and my non-tardis car.
It would have been great to have all the pieces I needed at once, but it actually works out ok since I hadn't considered the state the wood would be on these fence parts. The wood is all cut very roughly and really needs a long sanding to get to a state that makes any sense indoors. I hate to say this team, but I am once again forced to fight to make something smooth. Maybe I died and this is what hell is for me. Perpetually having to smooth out rough things for all eternity. At least hell will have a different color scheme than the red on black I was picturing.
The posts are preprimed, and I had bought pre-primed fence segments before returning them. I am definitely getting unprimed ones when I finally get the segments. I wound up having to sand the posts to get them smoother anyway and most of the primer came off. In the picture above, only the far right one has been sanded. It isn't perfect, I could have spent more time but I also knew that I wasn't working with really top quality wood here. The other three are going to get a lot more time with the electric sander and all four will have at least 3 coats with the magic primer.
I might even spend some time using woodputty to get to a smoother place. All I know is, I can't do four without a workbench. Trying to wrangle the boards as I work on the ground is just not a long term solution.
Anyway, its a small amount of forward momentum, but we are moving forward at least! I have some furniture coming in and then this room is really going to start looking like a real space!
I can't wait! I know this is a short one, but I know you know the drill. Keep making cool stuff.
Until next time,
JoshPrime
