Gift Wrapping
Hey Reader,
I had a friend who was celebrating a birthday and I decided to do a gift. I am not the biggest gift-giver in the world, so when I get the itch to buy things its kind of an event for me. I like to do a lot of small things rather than one big gift. Maybe it is my crippling social anxiety telling me that if I pick a lot of things I am more likely to be successful. I know that its the thought that counts - but anxiety doesn't know that. Anxiety is a needy jerk who doesn't listen to rational thinking.
Anyway, during January and February I was doing a cleanse and drinking a lot of fiber shakes. That cleanse is now over. Well, not really. I am writing this in the past while the cleanse is still happening. Assuming I live to March 19th, this post will be right in the middle of my first month with food again. Food sounds amazing. I am hoping that I can start writing a bunch of posts about delicious food I cook. I am just worried that once I can eat again my desire to cook will go down.
Point is, I had these two tubs of fiber shakes that I had emptied over the course of the cleanse. I wanted to figure out a cool use for one. That is when it hit me, I could use it as an awesome way to wrap this gift! I went out and got a bunch of silly cool things that I thought the birthday girl would appreciate. I also got some decorative contact paper. Of course, many of the things I thought would fit in the tub didn't but that's ok.
The first step was to clean out the inside and get as much label off as I could. When I got the label off, the sticky part was still there. I thought about hitting it with some goo-gone like in my dice jar, but then I realized that the stickiness might make the next steps easier.
I nabbed this awesome glitter contact paper used to up-cycle old furniture and line fabulous drawers in your kitchen. The jar was still so sticky that it made figuring out the side and shape I needed from the contact paper super easy. I cut small notches all along the top and bottom. I probably could have cut smaller notches and made it so none of the white underneath showed. Next time.
Then I removed the backing paper and starting wrapping my tub. The little notches folded down over the sides of the tub and when all was said and done I had a cute silvery plastic tub to hide all the little gifts the birthday girl was getting.
Using a paint pen, I wrote my message on the top. I probably would have painted the whole top a different color besides orange. I had hoped I had orange tissue paper laying around to tie it together when I put it in the bag, but I didn't.
I stuffed the tub full of candy, fun erasers and other miscellaneous nonsense. All of my gifts come in plain brown paper bags that I decorate with marker. This one just got a simple "happy birthday" motif.
There we go, a birthday gift all bundled up full of silliness. I haven't given it to the birthday girl yet, but soon. I also made a bow for the top of the orange lid out of brown paper to match the bag. I somehow didn't take pictures of it and the bag is so far from where I am now. You will just have to imagine what that looked like. I am sure I will make a bow again someday.
Next up: I discover the mysteries of cotton candy making!
Keep making cool stuff!
Until next time,
