Easter Soap!

Image
Hey readers! I am really enjoying making soap. I think it is partially because of how immediately useful it is. Making puppets is fun, but then you are left with a lot of puppets laying around your apartment like you went on a killing spree at Sesame Street. Wow. Three sentences in and I have already managed to create a word picture including murder and puppets. Damn blogging is fun - you never know where a paragraph will end up. Maybe that is more about my completely nonsensical writing style, but that is a level of introspection I am not prepared for right now. Unlike puppet making, soap making creates soap. Only the dirtiest of people will say that they don't need soap. Lots more people will say they don't need puppets. Go ahead and take a poll. I can tell you right now the results, but in the interest of science you better give replicating my study a shot. The other cool thing about making soap - at least the kind I am making that isn't 100% totally from scratch -...

Gift Wrapping

Hey Reader, I had a friend who was celebrating a birthday and I decided to do a gift. I am not the biggest gift-giver in the world, so when I get the itch to buy things its kind of an event for me. I like to do a lot of small things rather than one big gift. Maybe it is my crippling social anxiety telling me that if I pick a lot of things I am more likely to be successful. I know that its the thought that counts - but anxiety doesn't know that. Anxiety is a needy jerk who doesn't listen to rational thinking. Anyway, during January and February I was doing a cleanse and drinking a lot of fiber shakes. That cleanse is now over. Well, not really. I am writing this in the past while the cleanse is still happening. Assuming I live to March 19th, this post will be right in the middle of my first month with food again. Food sounds amazing. I am hoping that I can start writing a bunch of posts about delicious food I cook. I am just worried that once I can eat again my desire to cook...

My First Soap!

Image
Hey Reader! This week I am talking about a brand new thing I decided to try learning! Soap making! I am not going to be doing it totally from scratch - mostly because of the blindness issue. See, soap made from scratch uses lye, and lye can cause blindness if not used correctly. I wanted to make it totally from scratch, but when I went to Lowes, the 100% lye drain cleaner was out of stock. The fact that the product used to make soap is also used dissolve hair should give you a clue how dangerous this stuff is. I read a bunch of blogs and articles about soap making. Soap Queen has one of the best tutorials I could find on making soap from scratch and I do want to try it someday. However, I also like my eyes and flesh right where they are, not to mention there are hundreds of cool soap making tutorials and plans on Pinterest that use soap base. I did yoga the other day, and I will be honest with you - but just you and don't go telling other people. I'll be honest with you ...

Rainbow Puppets! Blue Pt 1 - Editing a New Foam Head

Image
Hey reader! I have three big craft projects that I want to work on pretty much RIGHT now. They are: learning how to make soap, doing a rag quilt, and this series of puppets. I want to do 7 monster puppets each done in a mostly monochromatic design with the 7 rainbow colors. The other two projects WILL happen (and I will eventually finish the twister quilt), but sometimes inspiration just strikes. I was supposed to be recording a podcast episode, but my co host had fallen ill with the an illness. I decided it would be fun to assume it was something unusual or embarrassing (like explosive diarrhea), but it was probably just a cold. While she recovered from her wicked bad leprosy, I was left home alone. So began my late night puppet inspiration. Since it was already night, I would have to make do with what I had in my box of crafts. I found that I had three different shades of blue fleece - and a large amount of one shade from the Danny Sexbang puppet. As you can see, I have ...
