I am buying a house to store my Pornogami.

Hey reader! I am in the middle of some very exciting stuff. I am closing on a house this week! You probably aren't surprised given the title of this post, but I didn't want to bury the lead.  Owning a home and being able to make it my own has been a dream. I kept a binder through to my early 20's with sketches of dream rooms and decorating ideas. Nowadays I can store that kind of material on a Pinterest board instead of lugging around a 3 ring binder like some kind of gay caveman. As you might have gathered from 42 weeks of blog posts, I enjoy making things. Getting a house is an extension of that. I am going to get to nest now. Apartments are great, but I can't paint or install skylights or put in track lighting. In my home I plan to do at least one of those things. This blog might be changing for a while as my craft projects turn more decidedly DIY. To be honest, I am not sure. When I started this blog, I didn't expect to still be working on it nearly a year...

Rag Quilt Part Deux

Image
Hey reader! I don't want to give you too much of a peak behind the curtain, but sometimes I write posts ahead of time. I know, I know. You have been sitting at home thinking I literally get halfway done a puppet and then don't touch it for a week. I hate to break it to you, but that's not how it usually works. I get obsessed with a project and work on it for a solid 48 hours and then have to figure out a way to break it up and make it a more manageable post. Herein lies my new problem. I have become obsessed with rag quilts. There is something pretty zen about making them. It is the same basic task over and over which allows my mind to wander to deep thoughts like "what if all my hair was eyelashes?" or "Sure I know how cotton candy is made, but what about salt water taffy?" or even "what kind of game show do I want to host on YouTube?" These are important thoughts that need time to be considered. Therefore, I have been drawn more and mor...

Dragon Puppet Pt 4 - Finishing Touches!

Image
Hey Reader! There are so many projects finishing lately. I have been really busy and need to start up some new stuff very soon. I have a few ideas up my sleeve. I have been pretty blocked with new crafting projects that speak to me, but I have a new puppet project I want to tackle and another quilt. I really need a whole room to store all my various crafting projects. Then I would probably want to separate that by craft. Really I need a craft house. House hunting aside, it is time to wrap up construction on the dragon puppet! This project has been fraught with issues, but its finally time to get it complete. As you can see, sewing the body together was pretty simple. The head was tough but the body was really just a rectangle of fabric that I tapered into a small tail. I will need to fill this puppet's insides with fluff to really make sure the body looks like it has some weight to it. The solid color wasn't working for me - and not just because it isn't green like ...

Baby Rag Quilt! It's a rag quilt - for a baby!

Image
Hey Reader! I hope this blog post finds you well. Are you have a great day? There isn't really a lot of back and forth possible on a blog post. I mean, I suppose there could be comments, but that is still pretty asynchronous. I am just going to assume you are having a great day. Perhaps you are discovering you are having a baby. That might seem like quite a leap, but you try and segue from the existential dread of writing a blog into the void with the miracle of childbirth. Even if you had a comment about it, this is asynchronous so I will have likely moved on by the time your words of discouragement reach me. I feel like I lost my point in there somewhere. I am making a rag quilt baby blanket. One of my colleagues is having a baby and I wanted to make something to commemorate the occasion. Seems appropriate. I have been itching to try a new type of quilt I discovered on Pinterest called the rag quilt. Essentially, you sew three squares of flannel together and leave an extra ...
