Some Projects are Simpler than Others

Image
Hey readers! In an attempt to continue to not work on my quilt, I am going to write about a really small project I was working on for a little bit. I was inspired (term used loosely here) by my purchase of Pack O Games by Perplext . If you are unfamiliar-which if you are reading this you are likely someone I know pretty well and therefore have heard me tell this story-is an awesome series of games where the creator's main constraint was that all the games had to be card games that fit in a package the size of a pack of gum. The games are really varied in both play and art style. Some have photographic art and very simple text, others have cute cartoon graphics. It really is a neat exercise - and the games are pretty fun. Granted I have not played all 16 yet, but I have liked all the ones I have played so far. They are quick to pick up and some are surprisingly complex! There are a few pretty cool review from Dice Tower , as well as awesome short videos explaining play . I can...

Quilting Doesn't Lend Itself Well To Blogs

Hey readers, I am drawing some concepts up of the next round of puppets that I want to make. I want to do a monster in every color of the rainbow. I am really excited to get started, but I also wanted to branch out into a different sewing project. I decided to do a quilt.  This project is rife with issues that I will get into, but I am committed to getting the top complete before I move on to something else. After working on it for a while, I discovered rag quilts. Rag quilts are super fun and much simpler than a traditional quilt. I want to do one of those next, so my puppet projects might sit on the backburner for a while. "What is wrong with this quilt?" You might be asking. Probably you are just reading and not trying to ask questions of your screen. Really that would be silly of you. I am not there to answer your questions and I am the best person for that job - since it is a question of me. Essentially the primary problem is that I don't like quilting. ...

Unicorn Birthday Party Pinata!

Image
Hey readers! We have had a bunch of posts about long term bigger projects. I wanted to do something that I could summarize in a single post. This project was something I saw on Pinterest a while ago for a friend's unicorn themed birthday party. I was invited to another unicorn party and decided to break this one out again. I guess unicorns are in right now. I wish puppets would become in. I would be WAY cooler if that happened. Well, I can dream. I went out and got myself a pinata and a few packs of tissue paper. The messiest part is ripping off all of the existing paper - don't forget to save the eyes if you plan to reuse them like I did! The first time I did this, the pinata had glue on nearly every inch of the tissue paper. This time, it seemed to only be glued on the edges. I also found that this pinata was covered in clear packing tape. The last one I did had no packing tape on it anywhere and was held together completely by glue. I guess I bought a different brand,...

Arin Egoraptor pt 4 - Finishing Touches!

Hey readers, We are wrapping up my Game Grumps puppet builds. These have been so fun to make! I already have my wheels spinning with my next puppet build, but I am going to try something else before returning to puppets. Anyway, Arin has been without eyes for far too long! Danny still doesn't have eyes, but that makes sense with his hair. I tested out a few different sizes of my new eyes to get a sense of scale with Arin's smaller head. I was going to use the biggest ones, but these medium sized eyes seemed a much better fit. Try taking a picture of eyes on a puppet before you glue them on sometime, let me tell you it isn't easy. Gravity was about as friendly to me as it was to Sandra Bullock . I am not sure if that even works as a reference since I haven't seen it. Also, that came out in 2013?! I would have guessed maybe a year ago, certainly not five. Sandra Bullock's career aside (holy shit George Clooney was in this too?), it was time to make some eyeball...
