Merry Christmas readers! I know you have been patiently waiting to read all about how I made Danny Sexbang's puppet body. It probably was like a cloud over all of your Christmas cheer. Well, never fear - here it is! I have tried several different body making techniques. The red creature I made a few years ago has my favorite body type. I free-handed a bowling pin shape in foam and it came out really awesome. For people, I usually just do a loop of foam and rely on the clothes to give the body shape. Like most of the work on this puppet, I was learning a ton from Adam. His puppet body video is phenomenal and I used his template to make Danny's body. When it comes time to make Arin, I will tweak it a little since I want them to have different body shapes, but for now, this template was great. Body creation was pretty easy once I had the template. Hey readers, It's time to talk about Danny's hair. I thought that Danny was frequently shown in Game Grumps Animated videos with hair covering his eyes. As I looked through, the only one I could find was the puppet video - the inspiration for all of this puppet making. I might eventually make him smaller eyes, but with the hair I am making, you won't ever really see them. Hey Readers, Doesn't look like much yet - but it will be great! So I ran into a lot of issues with the pumpkin head from my last blog. The frustration got to me and I needed to step away from the project to think. Mostly I think about who thought to make cotton candy for the first time, but that isn't really relevant to this post. I was watching YouTube, a common activity when trying to get my mind off of cotton candy creation. I found this awesome GameGrumps animated video where the animator made the two grumps into cartoon puppets. Inspiration struck! I could make them into REAL puppets. Hey readers, I am starting a brand new puppet adventure! I want to do a whole monster series of puppets to try out some new things I have learned, and try to do things I haven't done before. I would like to do: a witch, a vampire, a zombie, a mummy, a scarecrow, a sea monster and a werewolf. Perhaps I was inspired by my time watching the Netflix original series (for children) Super Monsters. The world may never know. That is a lot of puppets so I am going to take them one at a time and work slowly. I am starting with a scarecrow. I went looking around online for reference images. I had planned on doing a burlap looking face, but then I thought that a pumpkin head might be more visually interesting. It would also allow me to do several things I have never done with a puppet before. First, the eyes would be cut out of the head like a jack-o-lantern. Hey readers, My cheese ball game is on point! Assuming I know how to schedule posts, this should be coming out the week after Thanksgiving! If not, well then there sure is egg on my face. Anyway, this year I was invited to participate in a pot luck style Thanksgiving celebration. Of course, I am no chef. I once failed a boiling water. Hey readers! So much stuff! My podcast cohost, JustLeah, had a Stevie Nicks themed birthday. I wanted to make her something fun and on theme. Someone else nabbed making a top hat, so I needed to come up with something else. I decided I would try to make a little shadow box that she could hang on her wall (or throw out if she felt so inclined). I don't consider myself an expert on anything music, but a quick googling resulted in me discovering the quote "Don't be a lady, be a legend." Hey readers, I am going to cut right to the chase. I want to make a Book Of Shadows from Charmed. When I was going to school, my parents bought me a triquetra (the symbol on Charmed) as a sign that I would always be with them even when away at school. Yes, I have always been this big of a nerd. I got to school and with Charmed being quite popular, I fended off accusations of being a witch for a few years. It was my own personal Salem. The death count was about as high. I want to make the book all by hand, including the leather working. Hey readers! My name is JoshPrime and I like trying new things - or more specifically - making new things. This blog is where I will painstakingly record my inspiration and process as I make (hopefully) cool stuff. My facebook albums - Josh makes [insert random thing here] now - just aren't cutting it anymore. I want to keep better track of what I want to do differently so that I can keep getting better. I am a big advocate of making things yourself. Not only will it help when the zombie apocalypse comes, but it keeps you thinking creatively and lets you tinker with things until they are just how you want them. Plus, its super fun.
